Ranked 24th in Fortune's Global 500 list of 2006*, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT Group, NYSE: NTT) is the world's largest provider of telecommunications services.

The NTT Group can trace its roots back as far as 1869 and the introduction of the telegraph in Japan, and, since privatisation in 1985, the company has been diversifying extensively, building new subsidiaries, developing emerging technologies and expanding into new markets.

Together with NTT Communications, other companies in the NTT Group include NTT East, NTT West and NTT Data, which serve the Japanese market with traditional telecommunications and data services. NTT DoCoMo provides mobile voice and communication services worldwide. As of 31st March 2006, the NTT Group employed about 200,000 people worldwide, with operating revenues of approximately US$92bn (€73bn, £49bn).
